A short extract of a post that features in my book about the Great East Japan Earthquake, The Teas That Bind:
Recently arrived back in Tokyo from another trip North to Ishinomaki and still attempting to unravel my answers to the natural question of ‘how was it?’ Perhaps this will help. This is a documentary from Paul Johannessen, which interviews tsunami survivors about their lives, as well as featuring footage of Ishinomaki taken in April and November 2011.

A very interesting insight in the video and my thought is that they need to know that we care about them and their recovery whatever they think of their government’s lack of interest. We need to inspire them with hope that the future will be brighter because they survived and that in their reliance on each other they will come through. Mamx
