I wasn’t going to mention this as I know there are quite a few talented writers who read ten minutes hate and I thought maybe I could do without the competition!

Reason prevailed though, so it is only fair to let you know that the Carve Magazine Raymond Carver Short Story Competition is now open and I am working on a couple of ideas for it. Last year’s winner is a poignant read featuring a cast of very different women passing through a shopping mall’s bathroom.

I hope I can do it justice. So why not join me and get writing?

Challenge accepted! Now, should I work on the one about the princess with an army of lions, or the one about the forced marriage between two bacteria? Both obvious winners, I reckon 😛

Damn it, I knew I shouldn’t have told anyone else about this!

It’s okay, I think anything I write tends to fall under genre fiction. They’ll hate it. What about that one, you know, the one where the magical otter saves a man from execution? I like that one.

Do you have any short stories entered anywhere else? Checking out my competition? No, not at all! Would I? *shifty eyes*

heh, that has me thinking of the ‘film within a film’ bit of The Player. The otter runs in at the last minute like Bruce Willis…

See that link up there that says ‘stories’? Why not give it a click!

I already read some of those 🙂 I like to friend-stalk when appropriate. I’ve just spent 10 mins trying to say something about one of your stories (Let’s Start Again) and have failed, simply because I don’t think I possess (before noon, anyway) the right words to describe how it makes me feel. Suffice to say that its sort of like a hot, breathless breeze, clutching at the things we shove under the trapdoors of our minds. That’s a good thing. Am I making any sense?

Yes, very much so. I don’t know if I have the words, but that fever was what I was going for… thank you doesn’t seem to do it justice, but thank you! Have written a few things since – the one for Mark’s new zine and waiting to hear back from Carve about another.

Hey, how about posting a link in these here comments to where people can download some of yours?

Dare I be so bold as to spam your comments with my stuff? I think I dare 🙂 Let’s see – the one no one saw, because I was too shy to publicise it – http://www.cazart.co.uk/index.php?page=story&id=320

And here’s my runner-up entry in the Flashbang fic competition -http://flashbangcontest.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/runner-up-4/ – under 150 words which was a challenge to write but very enjoyable.

Good stuff re: the writing! What is happening with Mark’s zine? It seems to have disappeared off the radar…
